Summary

Yura Shingeru, a member of the teaching staff in the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning, designed the Japanese Room between 1963 and 1965. He executed the Japanese Room in a refined shoin-zukuri style favoured by seventeenth-century Japanese feudal lords. He also designed the Japanese garden on the north side of the former Architecture Building. The Japanese room was dismantled and stored before the demolition of the Architecture and Old Commerce buildings in 2012. It is planned to rehouse the Japanese room in the new building before December 2014.
